Rajendra Prasad – Bharat Ratna Adward Winner

Born on the 3rd of December in the year 1884, Dr. Rajendra Prasad was a famous political leader, who was a lawyer by profession, and went on to become the first president of independent India, in the year 1951, after Indian became a republic nation in 1950.

An ardent supporter and follower of Mahatma Gandhi, Prasad was a prominent part of the Indian National Congress, who participated in all the nationalistic movements during the country’s freedom struggle. During the freedom movements, like the Salt Satyagraha and the Quit India Movement, he was among the many leaders who were arrested and imprisoned.

He made a record for himself by being the only Indian president to have been elected twice for the presidency office after he was reelected for the post in the year 1957. An intellect with broader perspective on crucial subjects, he was a significant advisor for many fields, especially education, during Nehru’s administration.

The government of India honored him with the Bharat Ratna Award in the year 1962. Apart from his political ventures, he also had a number of literary contributions to his credit.

He passed away on the 28th of February, in the year 1963.
