Born on June 17th, 1973 in Kolkata, West Bengal, Leander Paes is a renowned tennis player in the country and has a list of popular awards to his credit, which includes the Arjun Award in 1990, the bronze medal at the Atlanta Olympics of 1996, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 1997, and the Padma Shri Award in 2001.

Born into a family that has the culture of sports inculcated in their blood, Paes holds the record of being the oldest man to win a glad slam title. His love for tennis dates back to his early childhood days when he developed a keen interest in the sport at the mere age of five.

He began his journey with the sport getting trained at the Britannia Amritraj Tennis Academy, and soon after that started his list of accolades, the first of which was him winning the Junior Wimbledon Title, that made him rank as No. 1 in Junior Wimbledon World Rankings in 1990 when he was only 17 years old.

Since then, there has been no looking back for Paes, who has received a list of awards from the Indian government as well as overseas for his achievements and contributions to the sport.
