The 11th prime minister of India, H.D. Deve Gowda was born in Karnataka, on the 18th of May, 1933. Being a member of the parliament he represents the Hassan District of Karnataka, which is also his birth place, Gowda was the 14th chief minister of Karnataka and also the leader of the political party Janta Dal.

He was named “son of the soil” by the general public for his continuous efforts to listen to every caste and class of the society, regardless of their power and financial statuses. He is said to have tremendous potential in convincing the public and is a great orator, for which he has been dealing with a set of issues of the Karnataka state.

He joined the Indian Congress party in the year 1953, when he was quite young, and served as a party worker until 1962. Being a voracious reader, he gained immense knowledge of politics and also won a seat in the Legislative Assembly of Karnataka.

He has played a significant role in being the mouth piece of the poor classes of the society, and has brought their issues in the sight of the government as well as the public. During his tenure as the chief minister of Karnataka, he contributed to the development of the state by introducing a number of policies, one of which was a reservation system which would give some scope for the minority to develop.

He became the 11th prime minister of India in 1996.
