About Jaigarh Fort

Connected with the Amer Fort, the Jaigarh Fort was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in Jaipur, Rajasthan in the early 18th century. A completely enclosed fort, the primary reason for the construction of the fort was to protect the Amer Fort from rivals and open firings, and hence, there are a lot of similarities between the two forts in terms of layout and architecture.

The fort provides a beautiful panoramic view of the city of Jaipur, and apart from its splendid architecture, it has been a famous building in the history of India, due to the legends associated with it, one of which was that a tremendously expensive and exquisite treasure was buried underneath the fort.

The structure is mainly made up of red sandstone and contains the world’s biggest canon on wheels, which is popularly known as the “Jaivana Cannon.” The fort has witnessed many significant events in history, one of which was Mughal ruler Aurangzeb killing his own biological brother to ascend the throne.

One of the strongest structures in Jaipur, the Jaigarh Fort could never be conquered by any rival and till date, remains one of the most popular tourist attractions in Northern India, especially as a Hindu architecture-oriented structure.
