Located in Jammu & Kashmir, Chara-e-Shar, also known as Charai Sharief, is a historic town, most famous for the popular Islamic poet Sheikh Noor-u-din Noorani, who throughout his entire life span wrote poems preaching about Islam and his love for the religion.

The shrine is visited by a large number of people belonging to different religions, on Urs, the death anniversary of Sufi Saint.

The town saw a tragic event in the year 1995 when a fire resulting from a violent encounter between the Mujahideen and Indian troops burnt down the place, wherein more than 1000 houses, 500 shops and a lot of other property and lives were compromised after the tragedy.

The shrine, situated around 28 km from Srinagar is considered to be one of the most religious Muslim shrines in the world and is more than 600 years old.

As a result of fierce, armed battles, the place suffered a lot, being destroyed more than twice after being ruined, but still the value and essence of the place is not jeopardized. It is one such tourist attractions in the country, which is respected by both Hindus and Muslims, with thousands of devotees showing up during times of important events in the calendar.
