Abhinav Bindra – Olympics Medal Winner

Born in Dehradun, in the Indian state of Uttarakhand on September 28th, in the year 1982, Abhinav Bindra is a renowned Indian shooter, who won the Olympic championship for 10 m air rifle, in the 2008 Olympic Games held at Beijing.

An indoor shooting range was built by his parents at their house and this drew Bindra closer to the sport. He was mentored by Dr. Amit Bhattacharjee from a very young age who helped him strengthen his hold on the sport.

He first created a record for himself when he was the youngest individual to participate in the 1998 Commonwealth Games, at the mere age of 15 and the same for the 2000 Olympic Games, when he was just 17.

Many accolades and appreciations to his credit, Bindra won the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award as well as the Arjuna Award in the year 2001.

Winner of more than six gold medals at various international platforms, Bindra is an active member of the GoSports Foundation in Bangalore, which promotes young talents in sports. Apart from that, he is also an effective guide who promotes and guides other Indian shooters, to help them augment their strength in the sport through the Abhinav Bindra Shooting Development Programme.
