Born on the 15th of October in the year 1931, Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, commonly referred to as A.P.J. Kalam is a famous scientist and writer, who became the 11th president of India in the year 2002 and served for a period of five years until 2007.

Born in Rameswaram, in the state of Tamil Nadu, he had keen interest in Science and Technology from a very tender age and went to study and pursue a career in Physics and aerospace engineering. He became a renowned scientist and became a part of organizations like the Indian Space Research Organization and the Defense Research and Development Organization.

He was an active member of the country’s civil space programs and played a significant role during the country’s nuclear tests in the year 1998.

With affirmation and unanimity from both the parties of Bharatiya Janta Party and the Indian National Congress, Kalam was appointed as the president of India in the year 2002. Once his tenure was over, he was back to pursuing his forte, and started contributed immensely to science, education as well as public service.

He has been honored with a number of awards till date, which include the highest civilian award in India—the Bharat Ratna Award.
