Vallabhbhai Patel – Bharat Ratna Adward Winner

Born on the 31st of October, in the year 1875, Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel, commonly known as Vallabhbhai Patel was a prominent leader of the Indian National Congress, as well as a renowned statesman and barrister, who was one of the founding members of the Republic of India.

Till date, he is often referred to as “Sardar” Vallabhbhai Patel, which means chief, as he was an individual with great leadership qualities and zeal to drive the nation towards independence and prosperity.

He began his career as a lawyer and ushered crowds from areas like Gujarat, Kheda and Borsad to voice against the British rule through a non-violence civil disobedience movement.

He was a prominent entity in promoting the Quit India Movement in the year 1942, and always preached for independent India, helping a large number of refugees who fled from Delhi and Punjab in order to restore the national integrity of the country.

The government of India honored him with the Bharat Ratna Award in the year 1991, posthumously after his death on the 15th of December, 1950.
