PM Modi ‘insulted national flag’ on Yoga day
A dalit activist and social worker V Sundar from Puducherry has filed a police complaint against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly insulting the tricolor during the International Yoga day celebrations at Rajpath on Sunday.
A complaint has been filed by Sundar, 38 against Modi for wiping his face and neck with the tricolor stole around his neck during the yoga session.
The alleged ‘offensive act of insult’ was caught on camera and the moment went viral on social media.
Dalit Sena state general secretary Sundar registered a case with the Oreleanpet police and requested to conduct an inquiry under the Prevention of Dishonor to National Flag Act of the Indian law. The police accepted his complaint and gave him acknowledgement slip.
Following this controversy, a quick overview of the Prevention of Insults to National Honor Act, 1971 shows that PM Modi did not insult or break any law as he wore the tricolor as a stole around his neck and it is an act of disrespect only when the Indian National Flag is used as a portion of costume, uniform or accessory of any description which is worn below the waist.
