Jayaprakash Narayan – Bharat Ratna Awards Winner

Born on the 11th of October in the year 1902, Jayaprakash Narayan, who is popularly remembered as Lok Nayak, was a renowned independence activist and a social reformer, who is prominently remembered in history for his strong opposition against the Indira Gandhi government, wherein he had called for a “total revolution.”

Pursuing his academics both from India as well as the United States of America, he joined the Indian National Congress on first prime minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru’s insistence. He soon took keen interest in Gandhi’s ideologies and became a significant member during the freedom struggle movements, in which he was even arrested and tormented by the British.

He was widely applauded for his endless public services and social work, for which he even has a number of popular hospitals named after him, as a tribute to the contributions made by him in the society.

The government of India honored him with the Bharat Ratna Award in the year 1999, posthumously, after he breathed his last on the 8th of October, in the year 1979, at Patna, in Bihar.
